India's Reliance Industries Ltd said it will launch fourth-generation wireless services commercially in the coming months as the energy-to-telecom conglomerate reported a forecast-beating 18 percent rise in first-quarter profit.
Reliance Jio is generating a lot of interest among Indian users after its superfast 4G LTE data was released to users. After letting its employees access the high-speed mobile internet and voice services last December, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio Infocomm extended its services to the public through an invite system. As it appears, Reliance Jio roll-out is progressing swiftly, and this may result in an early launch this year.
Earlier this month, Reliance launched its official Jio website, Jio.com, where the company has asked interested people to register for a network trial. The website also offers a glimpse of what the users can expect from Jio's app ecosystem, which includes apps such as MyJio, JioChat, JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioBeats, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioJoin, JioMoney, and JioSecurity.
No Charges for Voice calls:
Here we go the most important thing to mention is that Reliance will not have any charges at all for voice calls, and national roaming is entirely free as well. Further, with the exception of the cheapest plan, which has a limit of 100 messages, there will be no charges for SMS either.
Cheap Data plans:
The data plans are impressively cheap as well, starting at Rs 149, which gets you 300 MB of data per month. However, users will be more interested in the next tier plans, priced at Rs 499 and Rs 999 respectively, that will include 4 GB and 10 GB of 4G data respectively. And the best part is that all the plans include free 4G data at night, so the data limits are applicable for what you use during the
day.
Students will be able to get 25 per cent more data on Jio’s main tariffs. Platinum customers to get white glove services.
Free access to Jio Apps and Subscription:
All data plans also include free access Jio apps and subscriptions worth Rs 1,250 (~$18.67). This includes Jio TV, that will offer access to over 300 channels, Jio Cinema, that boasts a library of over 6000 movies and a million TV show episodes, as well as Jio Music, which is home to over 10 million songs.
Reliance Jio is targeting 100 million subscribers within 100 days of launch and about 131 million customers by the end of 2019-20, US-based brokerage firm Morgan Stanley had said earlier this year. The firm added that Reliance Jio could earn $1.7 billion in revenue by the end of 2016-17 if the commercial roll-out of 4G services began in April. The company's annual revenue is expected to rise to $6.69 billion (Rs 45,492 crore) by March 2020.
After watching all these plans we can say that the next few months are going to be very interesting in the Indian telecom market, and we can’t wait to see what the fallout of the launch of Jio is going to be.
