Xiaomi Mi, the leading Chinese smartphone maker is now in the market with its first ever laptop - Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air. The privately owned company is emerging since its first smartphone release in August 2011, took the market on storm and is now known to be the world’s 5th largest smartphone maker. Also, it is known for pricing its products almost at bill of materials prices without compromising the component quality and performance compared to other premium smartphones.
Of most of the ultraportable laptops Xiaomi’s latest product Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air is novel for its discrete graphics card, A Nvidia GeForce 940MX which runs typically faster. The product is creating a buzz in the smart world as a competent to the Apple’s Mac Book. However, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air measures less to a Mac Book but a way better than the other available Notebooks. Now lets explore the specifications, price and availability in detail.
Specifications of Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air
As we all know Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Notebook Air family by introducing its first pair of notebooks on 27th of this month. The laptops feature 12.5” and 13.3” full HD displays and are based on Intel’s Core M as well as Core i5 microprocessors, made by Tian Mi, a partner of Xiaomi, and will run Microsoft Windows 10 Home. Both devices have one USB Type-C port for charging, 2 USB 3.0 Type-A ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack.
The aluminum body comes in gold and silver, and there's a backlit keyboard. The outer body of the products is absolutely devoid of logos that gives a complete clean look, and you will find a Mi logo only when you open the laptop. The design of keyboard provides the appropriate clickiness but is not as solid as that of the Apple MacBook Air that it is buzzed to imitate. The sound system is fixed at the bottom which causes vibration and would cause disturbance while working and thus it is advised to use headphone jack.
Display
The ultrathin devices are claimed to be thinner than the Apple MacBook. The 13.3 inch notebook measures 309.6mm x 210.9mm x 14.8mm (12.18" × 8.3" × 0.58") and weighs 2.82 pounds (1.28kg) while the 12.5 inch device measures 292 x 202 x 12.9mm (11.5" × 7.95" × 0.51") and weighs (1.07kg). The 1,920x1,080 pixels full HD display of 13.3 inch device makes the user feel great to watch videos and play games and experience the presence of graphics whereas the other lacks the discrete graphics. Xiaomi claims the notebooks to have a wide angle display of about 1700, if true makes the device to stand above almost all the other notebooks in the competition this year.
Both devices have one USB Type-C port for charging, 2 USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a HDMI port, 802.11AC Wi-Fi and a headphone jack. However, the 12.5 inch product gives a better battery life with 11.5 hours while the 13.3 inch model would give only 9.5 hours of battery life. Also the 13.3 inch model comes with a factory expandable SATA SSD slot.
Price an Availability
The larger version of Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air costs about $750 while the smaller system would cost around $525 which is more affordable than the Apple MacBook.
The Chinese smartphone maker continues to follow its market strategy by selling its products in its own sector which means that these notebooks would be available exclusively in the Chinese markets only and will go on sale on Xiaomi’s website on August 2.
